Introduction to Seaweed Leaf

Seaweed leaves are rich in a variety of important components, including polysaccharides (fucoidan, agar, carrageenan, etc.), proteins, trace lipids, abundant minerals (e.g., calcium, magnesium, iron, etc.), and a variety of biologically active substances (e.g., phytochelatins, mannitol). These components are not only the basis for the growth and development of seaweeds, but also endow them with unique biological functions, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory. These functions are essential for maintaining seaweeds in a healthy state and also provide potential benefits to human health, including enhancing immunity, promoting nutrient absorption and preventing a wide range of diseases.

Seaweed leaves in food applications

Direct consumption and cooking:
Seaweed leaves such as nori and kelp can be directly consumed or used as cooking ingredients to add flavor and nutrition to dishes.
Food Additives:
Alginate and carrageenan extracted from seaweed leaves are widely used as thickeners and stabilizers in beverages, jellies, dairy products and other food products to improve the texture and extend the shelf life of the food.
Dietary fiber and health function:
Seaweed leaves are rich in dietary fiber, which helps promote digestion and prevent constipation. Meanwhile, it contains functional components such as fucoidan that have health benefits such as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Innovative Food Development:
Utilizing the properties of seaweed leaves, innovative food products such as seaweed noodles and seaweed butter have been developed to meet consumer demand for low-fat and healthy food.

Processing flow

The processing of seaweed grinding usually involves two key pieces of equipment: a hammer mill and an ultra-micro mill. Each of these two machines has its own role to play, and together they accomplish the transformation from chunky seaweed to a fine powder.

Hammer Crusher:
The chunks of seaweed are first fed into the inlet of the hammer mill.
Inside the pulverizing chamber, the high-speed rotating hammer head violently impacts, shears and tears the seaweed.
At the same time, the presence of a screen limits the size of the particles, ensuring that only particles that meet certain particle size requirements can pass through.
After the initial crushing, the seaweed particles are discharged through the screen, ready for the next process.

Ultra Micro pulverizer:
After preliminary pulverization the seaweed particles are fed into the feed system of the Ultra Micro Mill.
In the grinding chamber of the Ultra Mill, the seaweed particles are subjected to the action of high speed rotating grinding media.
These media provide continuous impact, grinding and dispersion of the particles to further reduce their particle size.
During the grinding process, there is also a grading system working at the same time to separate the powder that meets the particle size requirements in time to avoid excessive grinding.
The fine powder that meets the requirements is collected through a collection device, while the coarse particles that do not meet the requirements are returned to the grinding chamber for further grinding.
This process ensures uniformity and consistency in the final product.

The output powder can be ground to 100-400 mesh.

Processing Advantages

The advantages of hammer mill for processing seaweed leaves are its high efficient crushing capacity, adaptability to a wide range of seaweed leaves, adjustable parameters and low noise and vibration. The Ultra Mill, on the other hand, is characterized by its high-precision grinding, precise temperature control, non-polluting dust environment and strong continuous working ability to ensure the high quality and production efficiency of seaweed powder. The two synergize to realize the efficient and fine processing of seaweed leaves.
